Overview

Janet Jackson, 50 Cent, and Liam Payne were just some of the artists featured in the star-studded lineup of Jeddah World Fest, the first international music festival to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The festival was staged by Roqu Media International.

Roqu Media contracted The Manual, which brought in the expertise of renowned lighting designer Mark Cunniffe to illuminate the performers. For the event’s technical production, Cunniffe enlisted the support of World Class Events, part of the Spendlove Group. Specializing in large-scale show production and delivery, World Class Events is based in Dubai and has a strong reputation for delivering world-class events. The company has been involved in significant projects such as the Dubai Parks and Resorts Grand Opening Ceremony and Dubai’s record-breaking New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

For Jeddah World Fest, World Class Events managed the selection and appointment of the event’s key suppliers, including Creative Technology (CT), Protec, Electra, and Showforce, a fellow member of the Spendlove Group and an event crewing specialist. These teams successfully delivered the one-day event to an audience of 40,000 music fans, with the event being broadcast globally on MTV.

Approach

World Class Events has a proven track record of executing large-scale events that push the boundaries in terms of production, scale, and profile. Working alongside The Manual team, World Class Events brought its expertise to ensure the successful execution of an event that will be remembered for years to come in the region.

On-site, the team was supported by Showforce, which deployed both a site crew and production crew to ensure smooth operations. The site crew, consisting of a manager and four crew members, arrived early at King Abdullah Sports City to unload equipment and prepare the extensive setup. This included marking out the site, assembling perimeter fences, and setting up key areas such as toilets, concessions, and service zones, ensuring a safe and efficient experience for attendees.

Meanwhile, the production crew, managed by World Class Events, was split into two teams to support Creative Technology (CT) and Protec. The CT crew handled the construction of the event’s iconic diamond-shaped LED screens, suspended on the main stage, while the Protec crew managed the setup of all audio and lighting systems. Once the stage build was completed, 10 crew members were involved in backline changes for the artists throughout the live performances.

The reaction to Jeddah World Fest was overwhelmingly positive. The event marked a milestone for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and demonstrated the ability of World Class Events and Showforce to deliver complex, large-scale productions in new and exciting locations. The success of Jeddah World Fest signals great potential for future events and festivals in the region, showcasing the skills and expertise of both teams.
